What’s this? #
Life thoughts. A lot of these are ideas from “The Power of Now”: https://www.amazon.com/Power-Now-Guide-Spiritual-Enlightenment/dp/1577314808/
Some others are from pop culture, and some are my own constructs.
Mindfulness #
- Your mind is not you. Your thoughts are not you. Your pain is not you.
- Mindfulness => Ability to observe the mind’s stream of thoughts (and body signals) and not be judgmental.
- Being the Watcher of these reduces the impact they have on you.
- Pain and fear (and all its variations greed, anger, etc.) occur from the (reptile) mind.
- Love and compassion occur from higher consciousness.
- Meditation is just practicing how be more observant in order to quiet mind noise.
- Eventually, even when not meditating, your mind will be quieter and sharper.
- Prayer is a form of meditation.
- The body is our link to the spiritual. Observe within, not just externally.
Psychological Time #
- Psychological suffering stems from dwelling in past or imagined future. Wanting to be there instead of Here.
- It obscures and dulls the experience of the Now.
- The Present is the only reality.
- The past and future are mind projections.
- Your life situation is not the same as your life.
Principles #
- If you make your calling: service for the sake of others, you’ll never lack purpose in life.
- With great power comes great responsibility.
- Life vs Afterlife. No certainty if life is predetermined or free will or a mix.
- Therefore, if life is uncertain, what comes after life is can be thought as even more uncertain.
- Given doubt of what’s next. Live this life in the Eight-Fold Path to hedge within uncertainty.
- Surrendering to your life situation means not generating resistance to what is.
- Accepting the Now releases you from all the pains of the past.
- Nothing can bring you down. In essense, nothing burdens you anymore because you’re invulnerable.
- When some one hurts you and you don’t let it go, then the memory of that singular event will hurt you again and again. Let it go, and it only hurt you once. Concept of the 2nd arrow.
- Have a peaceful, happy mind as a way to be compassionate for the folks that have to put up with us.
- Give without expecting anything in return as that is truly letting go. Having an expectation in return for giving is actually not giving at all, it’s deferred bartering.
- Loss is inevitable. Our society is hyperfocused on attaining things. At some point we will lose things. (Grief Recovery Handbook)
Skillfulness #
- The small space between something happening and our response to it is our chance to set intention (Skillful intent)
- Skillful Intention - understanding the intent of an action before taking it.
- Expectations are the seeds of disappointment.
- Goals are setting an intent. Measuring success shouldn’t be based on outcome because many factors out of our control can change the outcome.
- However, if we reflect that intent of the goal remained true through the process, then we have peace in that no matter the outcome.
Interdependency #
- No matter how unrelated/seperate you feel you are to another person, we are all are mortal.
- At some point in another 0 to 90 years we will all perish and return to the cosmic dust,
- that is the return to the Earth and the Universe from where we came from.
- So every human, plant, animal, inorganic entity is connected this way so we must cultivate compassion for each other as we are all manifested from the same Being.
- At some point in another 0 to 90 years we will all perish and return to the cosmic dust,
- The self (the identity aka “I”) is a sum of other people and things that came before me and given to me. (Noah Rasheta Ep 10?)
